   A Venezia spetta altresì 1* introduzione della prima Banca nazionale, come già osservammo (1) quando a’tempi del doge Vitale Michiel II per sovvenire ai bisogni dello Stato fu decretato un prestito generale, pagandone semestralmente gl’interessi del 4 o/„ sestier per sestiere, e con polizze di banco commerciabili (2), con che ebbe origine il primo banco nazionale in Europa (3).
    Altrettanta cura metteva la Repubblica veneta nel buon ordinamento della zecca, onde troviamo i pesatori, gli assaggiatori, i coniatori, i bollatori ecc. dell’ oro e dell’ argento con provvide leggi a tutelare il cittadino nelle faccende della moneta e de’metalli nobili (4).
